Taïb Fassi Fihri
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation
of the Kingdom of Morocco

Born on 9th April 1958, in Casablanca, Morocco.
M. Fassi Fihri graduated from « Lycée Descartes » in Rabat with a Baccalaureate in Science with a specialization in Mathematics, and went on to obtain, in 1980, a degree in engineering in statistics from the Institut National de la Statistique et d’Economie Appliquée (INSEA) (National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economic), in Rabat.
In 1981, he graduated from the University Panthéon-Sorbonne of Paris with a Master’s degree in “Public Economics and Planning” and then went on to obtain his PhD in “Analysis and Political Economy” from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Institute for Political Studies), Paris.
From 1983-1984, M. Fassi Fihri was a professor in Microeconomics at the University of Paris VII and was then appointed research fellow at the Institut Francais des Relations Internationales (IFRI) (French Institute of International Relations).
In October 1984, he joined the Planning Directorate in the Ministry of Planning. He was then nominated, in June 1985, as Special Advisor to the Minister in charge of relations with the EEC.
In June 1986, he was appointed Head of Division in charge of relations with the European Community within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Mr. Fassi Fihri was actively involved in negotiations between Morocco and the EEC.
In November of 1989, he became the Chief of Staff of the Minister of State in charge of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Mr. Fassi Fihri was nominated by His Majesty the late King Hassan II, Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on 11th November 1993. His mandate was renewed during the successive governments formed in June 1994, February 1995 and August 1997.
He was appointed as Advisor at the Royal Cabinet of His Majesty the late King Hassan II on 16th March 1998.
M. Fassi FIhri was nominated by His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs on 25th November 1999. Following a Cabinet reshuffle, M. Fassi Fihri was appointed Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on 6th September 2001.
In July 2001, His Majesty King Mohammed VI decorated Mr. Fassi Fihri Officer of the Wissam Al Arch (Order of the Throne).
The 4th of July 2002, His Majesty the King Mohammed VI designated Mr. Fassi Fihri as coordinator and official spokesman for the negotiation of the free trade agreement between Morocco and the United States of America.
Mr. Fassi FIhri was nominated by His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on 7th November 2002.
Mr. Fassi FIhri was appointed by His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation on 15th October 2007.
Mr. Taïb Fassi Fihri is married and has two sons.
