Moroccan – British collaboration in archeological heritage

In the framework of the reinstatement’s program of the archeological sites, and the with the support of the Embassy, the Moroccan British Society, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, the Institute of Archaeology at Oxford University and “Institut National des Sciences de l’Archéologie et du Patrimoine de Rabat”, will be achieving the following activities:
-Visit to Taforalt Site “Grottes des pigeons” from the 20th of March to 21st of April 2010.
The purpose of this study trip is to support a long-term protection of the ancient site of Taforalt and to carry out a fieldwork consisting on caves excavations.
The site is situated in the Beni Snassen Mountains in Eastern Morocco. It is classified a national prehistoric monument of international importance and a major reference point in the prehistory of the Maghreb (contains one of the longest and best dated environmental records for North Africa).There are very rare specimens of shell ornament dated to 82 000 years ago.
-Visit to Rabat between the 28th of May and the 21st  of June 2010
This visit will be an occasion to create a dialogue between British and researchers Moroccan to discuss future partnership in general in the fields of the inheritance and the archaeological research, in order to consider with length term a precise program of scientific and technical cooperation.
