Beni Mellal: constant royal care for socio-professional integration of prison inmates
22/05/2014

His Majesty King Mohammed VI inaugurated, Thursday in Beni Mellal, a vocational training center at the prison of the city, and laid the foundation stone for the construction of a post-prison support center.

Carried out by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of prisoners for a total investment of 9.5 million dirhams, these projects are the perfect illustration of the will of the sovereign to make prisons a learning space, and his determination to ensure the socio-economic integration of detainees after their release.

These projects also reflect the far-sighted royal vision to enhance safety of the Moroccan society, fight crime, and reduce the prison population and recidivism.

The new training center within the civil prison of Beni Mellal is the 51th of its kind in the Kingdom. It is part of an integrated program implemented by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of prisoners which aims to transform prisons into a space for rehabilitation, learning, and know-how, particularly through the development of cultural and sports activities, providing medical care to inmates, and the promotion of vocational education and training.

The 6-million dirham training center is part of the efforts of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the reintegration of prisoners to foster training and education as a tool for social and professional reintegration, and fight against recidivism and social insecurity.

The new center will benefit more than 260 inmates and will provide training in the fields of construction, hairdressing, information technologies, agriculture, literacy, and formal education.

As for the future post-prison support center (3.5 million dirhams), it seeks to assist former convicts to integrate into family and socio-professional life.

The Beni Mellal post-prison support center will benefit ex-prisoners through a personal life project, developed on the basis of a diagnosis made during the period of detention, with the assistance of reintegration services.
