The 29th regular session of the Assembly of the IMO

A reception was held Tuesday evening at the Lanesborough Hotel -London- on the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco to support and promote the candidacy of Morocco to the IMO Council, which has 40 Member States, elected for a term of two years.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Morocco to UK, H.H princess Lalla Joumala underlined the importance granted by the Kingdom to this United Nations Organization and its commitment to its noble values, reiterating the support of Morocco for the efforts made by the IMO for the community and maritime professionals.

Since joining the OMI en1962, Morocco has continued working to support actions carried out by the OMI to strengthen the security and safety of the maritime , fight against the pollution and improve the living conditions of the sailors, added the ambassador, expressing the wish to see the bilateral and multilateral cooperation to strengthen further between members of the IMO.

This organization, which holds the 29th session of its General Assembly in London, is expected to renew its decision-making and operational structures, approve its budget and action plan for the next two years.

On the sidelines of the session, the Ambassador of Morocco H.H Princess Lalla Joumala handed over the instrument of ratification of the Treaty on the management of ballast water (BWM) by the Kingdom to the IMO Secretary General Mr. Koji Sekimizu.

Morocco becomes the 45th Member States of the IMO to join the "Ballast Water Management" (BWM), reflecting its strong commitment in the fight against maritime pollution, threatening the marine environment.

Morocco's Adherence to the Treaty BWT fits right in with the strategy outlined by the government to prevent the spread of harmful aquatic organisms from one region to another, by establishing standards and procedures for the control and management of Ballast Water and Sediments from ships.
