28/01/2016

HM King Mohammed VI received, Thursday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, Government Head, Abdelilah Benkirane, and Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, to take measures against delayed rains and mitigate its effects on the agricultural activity, HM the King's Office said.

Following a detailed presentation of the Agriculture Minister, the Sovereign gave His High Instructions to provide support to farmers, HM the King's Office said in a statement.

To this end and part of the High solicitude of HM the King towards the rural world, the Sovereign gave His High instructions to implement a set of actions.

Firstly, drinking water will be supplied to remote villages that are in need, the statement noted.

Regarding the agricultural activity, the first set of measures provides for protecting animal resources through supplying feed and water to the cattle in the best conditions, and providing a vet checkup of the herd.

The second set will focus on protecting plant resources, particularly plantations carried out within the framework of solidarity-based agriculture in its conversion component. This set will notably focus on securing inputs for the coming campaign. The conversion to spring crops will be additionally promoted, the statement pointed out.

In accordance with the High Royal Instructions, maintaining balances in rural areas remains a major focus of public policies and the series of actions to be taken, the same source added.

Special attention will be paid to monitoring the implementation of projects of solidarity-based agriculture, given the challenges it represents in terms of income and employment generation, the statement concluded.
