Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Holds Talks in Istanbul with African Ministers

Foreign Affairs and Cooperation minister Salaheddine Mezouar held talks here on Thursday with several African ministers, on the sidelines of the 13th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Talks focused on the fight against terrorism and extremism as well as regional and international issues.

Mezouar's talks with his Gambian counterpart, Neneh Mac Doual Gaye, focused on various aspects of bilateral relations and issues of common interest.

Mac Doual Gaye reiterated the wish of the Gambian President to pay an official visit to Morocco and extended an invitation to HM King Mohammed VI to visit Gambia.

Mezouar underlined the importance of dialogue between the two countries and hailed Gambia's stance regarding the Sahara issue.

Mezouar also met with Somalia's Prime Minister, Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, with whom he discussed the means to enhance bilateral relations and boost cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The Somali PM said that his country, which fights a terrorist group, seeks to benefit from Morocco's assistance for the reorganization of its security and intelligence services to better fight terrorism and extremism.

Mezouar reiterated Morocco's support to Somalia in its fight against terrorist and extremist groups, which threaten this country's security and stability
