The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Chairman of the COP22 steering committee, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, met, on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 in Rabat, with the US Special Envoy for Climate Change Mr. Jonathan Pershing, currently on a visit to Morocco.
At the end of this interview, Mr. Mezouar declared that the United States, a friendly country, is naturally on Morocco's sides for the COP22 success, recalling its "decisive" role in the conclusion of the Paris Agreement.
The Minister also stressed that after the Paris Agreement, the Marrakech Agreement should mark a new stage in the implementation of commitments made at the international level that should find their concrete translation of the ground.
Mr. Mezouar noted that discussions were also exchanged on points to be made during COP22, including those related to financing, besides the question of improving commitments.
As far as the preparation of this international event is concerned, the Minister informed of the "good synergy" created between the different teams, as well as the setting of the next scheduled appointments.
For his part, the US Special Envoy for Climate Change highlighted the importance of the Moroccan-American partnership for the success of the climate challenge. This partnership is likely to enable the realization of the commitments in the energy sector and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
